There have been many incredibly wealthy and powerful empires in history. The Roman Empire had an extremely powerful army. Soldiers were given the opportunity to gain riches by joining a Roman Legion. Soldiers in the early Mongol Empire lived simple nomadic lives. The wealth of the Mongol Empire stemmed from land and livestock.
