Jim Radford was just 15 years old when he left school to serve in the British Navy as a galley boy. During his first trip at sea, he served in the Allied invasion of France on D-Day, June 6, 1944. It took Radford years to be able to put into words what we saw there, but he decided to use his love of folk music to share his story. His single rocketed to the top of the charts to try to help the Normandy Memorial Trust raise money for a memorial on the beaches where the invasion took place.
