The discovery of King Tut’s tomb was one of the most significant archaeological finds in history. Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon discovered the tomb in 1922, and inside they found thousands of valuable treasures. The entire King Tut collection is worth an estimated $26 million. Carter searched for King Tut’s tomb for years even after his colleagues told him the search was futile. Many other archaeologists believed that all the tombs in the Valley of Kings had already been discovered. King Tut was one of the richest people to ever live. Ancient Egyptians considered him to be a god, and he had all the resources and wealth of Egypt at his disposal. He died at just 18 years old, but researchers aren’t exactly sure how he died. Some people believe that he died due to a fall, but other people believe he was killed by a hippo. King Tut’s tomb is located near Luxor, Egypt. Surprisingly, it’s actually quite small in comparison to the tombs of other Pharaohs because King Tut died unexpectedly. There simply wasn’t a tomb ready for his burial. Inside the tomb, archaeologists discovered an impressive piece of chest jewelry called a pectoral. It was designed to look like the falcon god Horus, who was thought to be the creator and protector of the pharaohs. King Tut’s tomb also contained gold jewelry featuring blue scarab beetles made of lapis lazuli, which is a semi-precious stone prized for its intense blue color. King Tut’s tomb contained weapons, jars containing his organs, gold ornaments, valuable jewels, masks, funeral beds, chariots, board games, gilded statues, and even mummified meat. Here’s a look inside King Tut’s tomb.
