Students will be awarded the grades predicted by their teachers for their A-level and GCSE results as the government scrapped the controversial Ofqual algorithm that saw nearly 40% of results downgraded.
After initially standing by its system, the government bowed to pressure from furious students and MPs. However students will be allowed to keep their algorithm-calculated grade if it is higher.
Ofqual chair Roger Taylor apologised, saying it “simply has not been an acceptable experience for young people”.
